Hello Youth!

The time has come for the much awaited announcement of the first youth weekend..........

26-28 October - Youth Weekend in Manchester

Our first get-together will be held post-Ramadan and pre-Halloween at the new Manchester Subud house. Activities to include drama improvisation workshop, a comedy event (part of the Manchester Comedy Festival, check out the website   www.manchestercomedyfestival.co.uk),open discussions (if anyone has any particular youth issues they would like to talk about let us know), pumpkin carving, seeing the  city and sharing the group Latihan on Saturday evening, cooking and  eating together, planning future events, and general chilling.

Accommodation is being offered free of charge by the Manchester group (bring a sleeping bag!), the only other costs will be travel, a possible £5.00 for the comedy event, and food costs (shouldn't be  more than £20.00 per person for the weekend). If you would like to come but are broke, let us know anyway and we will see if there is anything we can do to help.

We would love to see all of you there, RSVP if you'd like to come: sya@subud.org.uk (Train travel is always cheapest if booked in advance, contact us early and we may be able to arrange a lift.)

Hope all is very well with you all, best wishes for Ramadan to those who are fasting.

Love Stephanie and Salman

Subud Youth BIG 2002 YOUTH FILM.....
Posted by SubudLife
Sunday, April 15, 2007

Message from Salman Rogers, Britain:

Way back in 2002, the Subud Youth Association Britain under Brianna Rose organised a project to make a documentary film about the British congress that year - BIG 2002. It was mostly shot by Alex Scott with the help of a few others including me. After the congress, the project rapidly ran out of steam, and the tapes were forgotten for the past five years. However, the tapes have recently been passed in my direction and I have transferred them to the computer. The material is 8 hours of random interviews and congress activities, mainly concentrating on the youth. Some of it is really good - probably more interesting now than in 2002. It is especially interesting to see many of you 5 years younger! The files are in DV format and still of excellent quality. I was thinking that it would be really nice to edit and screen it at Thankyou 2007 this year.

Is there anyone out there (or anyone who might know someone) who wants to help with the editing? I could send you copies of the footage on DVD and perhaps we could get together for a day or a weekend to put it together (hopefully with Alex Scott too)... maybe SYA can be persuaded to fund our travel and expenses....(?) It might be fun. Video editing is really easy nowadays with big hard disks and lots of free software so you don't need to know much to have a go - although if anyone out there has relevant experience, please do come forward. We could also think about making a film of Thankyou 2007, or other movie-making activities, using SYA's video camera.

xx

Salman

Subud Youth Subud Youth Attack the Airwaves On Subud Radio
Posted by SubudRadio
Monday, December 11, 2006
On Saturday 09th December 2006, Subud Youth and their trusted leaders attacked the Subud Radio Airwaves whilst on a specially organised Youth weekend gathering in Liverpool.
In an unprecidented move, Louise Harrington, one of the ring leaders, helped conduct interviews by hi-jacking a local internet connection.
Due to technical issues, Esaias Hobbs was unable to witness proceedings, the results of which maybe listened to on Subud Radio tonight from 20.00 to 21.30 GMT.
Be aware, this group should be approached with extreme caution! They obviously had much fun doing it...
For best results - PLAY LOUD - they experienced some microphone problems.
Appologies in advance - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Subud Youth O the Joy of Volunteering....
Posted by HarunKennedy
Tuesday, November 21, 2006
Hi there everyone, it is Rhyana Blakeley here, Co SYAI coordinator.  Basically I am asking for your help and letting you know about a project that we are working on with Susila Dharma International.   Basically for those who do not knew about Susila Dharma it is the charitable “wing” of subud, and Subuds most established and public area of Subuds work.  Helping to support and in some cases helping the setting up of many charitable projects.   In fact I would be very surprised if you had not heard of it.  Now if you are interested in more information about how SDI works, or about any of the amazing projects that it supports please find out more by looking at: www.susiladharma.org

A side of SD that is not so well known is that in the past people have often volunteered for various projects.   This has usually been done by word of mouth, someone hearing of a project and contacting the project directly and making arraignments, and has often been done by younger members, mostly as far as I knew subud members.   Recently a young member who had just volunteered for a SD project contacts both me and Hamilton (co SYAI coordinator) and Sharifin Gardiner (the Chair of SDI).  She told us about her experience volunteering and the problems that she had experienced.  This started of the idea that has become Volunteers without tears.  We have created a group of people to help to build a programme to support Volunteers, especially younger volunteers.   The idea is to look at how to train, inform and protect anyone going to volunteer.  To make sure that the volunteers are actually of use, and not a burden to a project, etc.  This is still in the early stages, but to help us Hester and Raphael Bate have created a short form.  This form is mainly for people who have, or are volunteering for a SD project.   Please take five mins to fill it in as it will be very helpful to us and hopefully to future volunteers. And if you knew of anyone who has or is please forward it to them.  Also those who have volunteered outside of subud and would like to make a contribution please feel free to fill in the form but make it clear that it was not for a SD project.   If you have an interest in volunteering and have any suggestions of how we could make information more accessible, or what information should be available please fill in the back of the form (a blank space) or send an email to the below address.  Or if you have any suggestions please do the same.
I have to point out, that at this point in time, this programme is not up and running we are trying to create it.  So you have the opportunity to have an active role in that creation.  But if you want to volunteer at this time we may not be able answer all of your questions or assist you at this time.  We will keep you informed of this exciting process, and thank you for your help.

Please download the form and then forward it and any other comments and questions to:

resther44@aol.com

Also please take a moment to look at the SD website as the work they are doing is truly amazing and inspiring: www.susiladharma.org

Thank you Rhyana

Subud Youth British Congress, Wolverhampton 20-27th August
Posted by louiseharrington
Friday, June 16, 2006

It's summer time, and Britain has sun, hurray. We also have a great congress lined up for us. British Congress is always fun, with so many friends able to come along and spend time together

The exciting thing is that we now have a programme, which is evolving by the day. I love the way the plans weave into each other, creating space for people to do as they like. From the active, such as a football tournament on Astro turf and Break dancing with Conrad Williams (an old favourite) to the more sedate (forums), educational (workshops), spiritual (youth latihan and testing) to the very loud (jamming sessions and club night), and an excursion to the National sea life centre. The trip out to the sea life centre will be on Wednesday, and it would be really helpful if you were to get in touch and tell me if you are interested in booking.

We're running an evening bar at Congress, to raise money for both Subud Youth and Susila Dharma, and there will be a free drink for those who run any workshop. By the time we're all on our way to Wolverhampton, there should be many more things to do. But then again, the best moments are often found just sitting out on the grass under the sun with friends, being together.

There are a couple of things that you could help us with though, and that is BOOK. Oh yes, it's that simple, book a place. Let us know that you are coming along, and you will help to make the whole process of organizing for congress oh so much easier.

For us, guessing what sort of things you want at Congress is half the battle, the other is knowing how many of you there will be. For many of you, you are probably wondering about whether to go, lots depending on whether your friends are going. Trust me they're going, and they just might not realise it yet. And then, you're probably going to spend your time with loads of lovely new people anyway. And when it's time to go home, you'll be promising everybody that you'll definitely see them at the next congress, and so the cycle begins again.
