All HOPE MAGAZINE ( 2406 Reads )
Posted by Anonymous
Saturday, December 07, 2002

I am working on a concept for a professional magazine called "HOPE". I believe that such a magazine would stand out against the background of hopelessness projected by most of today's print media.

A few weeks ago, I was walking through the airport, feeling rather low, I looked around for something to lift my spirits. My choices: drown in the news or get lost in a host of diversions. I chose to live with my feelings. At that moment I remembered an idea I had many years ago - it was a magazine called "Hope".

READ ON.........

This would be a glossy publication on the same level as Time or Fortune magazine, but with a distinct leaning toward the positive side of life and world events.

There is a theory that positive events occuring and publicized in one part of the world influence events all over the planet - in a positive manner. The converse is also clearly true. We don't know the strength of light.

At this stage I am exploring the professional and financial resources within and outside of Subud that could contribute to the development of such a publication. If you have an interest, opinion or profesional background that would support such an undertaking, I would like to hear from you.

This is a private effort, inspired by, but not directly connected to the Subud organization.

Sincerely,

Hamid Kaber

Hello Hamid,

I am interested. Would be willing to contribute as much as i could to such a project.

I have just put up a web site that contains links to social, artistic, dance and health development projects throughout the world that you may be interested in looking at.

The aim of my site is to gather together sites that are of a high quality, are informative and useful, and contain a substance or wholeness within them from which viewers can gain nourishment and inspiration.

The address of my site is http://members.ozemail.com.au/~tolstoy2

As i was writing this e-mail i started to think of the notion of hope and what this word meant to me by itself and as the title of the proposed publication. The following are some of my thoughts.

I believe hope is important to the individual because it is an impetus for action. Hope is the belief in the action that comes from within, that is engraved with a persons individuality, and abides by, honors and advocates justice and peace. It respects every humans ability to live a life so abundant with purpose and content that it is shared by all those around them.

Therefore in a way hope is not the most important element, however it is hope that allows our strength to come forth. The emphasis in this process, i believe, should be on the strength and capability of each individual, not the word, or the manufacturing of a notion of "Hope". It is a two way relationship however, our strength inspires hope, and hope allows for our strength to come forth. What we want is a hope that is real and the realisation of a strength that is real.

Well that is enough of that for now. I guess the impetus behind embarking on that exploration and expression was trying to imagine seeing a magazine called 'Hope' and asking what my reaction and relationship to the title would be. Obviously it would be of less benefit if the magazine was merely designed to make people feel better without feeling the empowerment and inspiration to take action to better their lives and the lives of others through discovering or acting on convictions that make up part of who they are. Therefore i would like to see content that told real stories that showed real strength that required real action to exist. As i said before it is the acknowledgment, realisation and demonstration of our strength that inspires hope. That is what makes hope real and that is why we can trust and believe in hope.

OK now i really will finish with that and move onto other things :)

As for my skills and what i could contribute to the project, i can write, both academically and creatively, i can speak, i can dance, i can sing, i can act, i can speak with people and have good organisational, facilitation and leadership skills. Whilst some of these skills i have had to dedicate time to, and exercise patience with, many come naturally to me and i am confident that in whatever work i do these skills or character traits will naturally come forth.

The work that i do on my web site, and the work that relates to the content of the web site in my everyday life, is easy for me and i enjoy it. This is where i feel my strength.

Providing the conditions of this project, and the people involved, were honest, sincere, passionate and sensible i would be very interested in becoming involved.

I look forward to speaking with you,

regards,

Robin Wyllie.
