Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Subud Cyprus has lost many beloved members over the last few years. With each passing, I was moved to write and share our sadness with the Subud World community. First we lost Hasan Fehmi, both a local and regional helper who had been opened by Bapak in England in the 1950s. Then Hasan Duba, a long-time Subud Cyprus Helper who was opened by Hasan Fehmi and served Subud Cyprus for over three decades. Then our beloved Said Yahyalar, who had served with both Hasan Fehmi and Hasan Dubah, passed away over two years ago.  With each passing, we shared our experience with the world community.

When Neset Erkmen died last year, I felt no compulsion to write. I cannot explain it, but it is only now that I can write and share his passing.  Neset, a longtime helper for Subud Cyprus, was one of the earliest members opened by Bapak at Coomb Springs. Over the last 13 years, as I visited him at his home in Lefkosa (Nicosia/Lefkosia) for latiahn, I always left feeling that a blessing had been bestowed on me. The latihan flowed so powerfully when we were around Necet, and his presence always brought a calm inner feeling to those around him.

Neset is the last of the Cypriot men helpers who were originally opened by Bapak and spent their lives in the service of all those who came and asked for the latihan. Neset's wife Myriam continues to serve the women members in Cyprus at their home in Nicosia and also continues to provide a latihan space for the men members when we visit with her during latihan nights.

Our dear Brother Neset was a gift from God. I can still feel that wonderful sense of centeredness that came in his presence but I do miss the opportunity to sit with him and often wish that I had done so more often when he was still here with us in  person.

The members of Subud Cyprus love you dearly Myriam and Neset and we pray that we may be up to the challenge to fill those shoes that Necet wore with such ease and comfort.

Mashoed
