Muhammad Subuh Foundation Muhammad Subud Foundation News ( 2122 Reads )

MS what? Thatís what I asked, as I listened to Peter Filippelli speak about the Muhammad Subuh Foundation at the World Congress in Bali. For those of you who were not able to attend or, like me, are ignorant of the greater world beyond Subud USA, allow me to explain.

MSF funds projects that further the growth of Subud. These include grants to build Subud houses; money to support Susila Dharma initiatives and other Subud social projects such as the International Almonerís fund; underwriting of the recent re-translations of Bapak talks; seed money for Subud enterprises; and support of youth proposals through Subud Youth Association. This is just the short list.

Since the World Congress last July, MSF gave US$ 5000 to the Lemba Imbu School outside Kinshasa, RD Congo. This school was started in 1995 by Santu Ntendi and Charlotte Ndona, following Bapakís suggestion that they do something for the poor. In 2000, 340 students who would otherwise have no education attended the four-room school, despite lack of electricity, water, and virtually no furnishings. In 2001, the school formed a partnership with Oxfam Great Britain and now has a new building and proper latrines. The MSF grant, given through the Farkus Foundation, will allow for the purchase of a manual water pump, additional benches for the children to sit on, books and teaching supplies, and enlargement of the school playground.

Other recent MSF activity includes a US$ 500 grant for a Polish translation of Varindra Vittachiís A Reporter in Subud and US$ 670 toward the purchase of a professional scanner for the International Archives in Australia. As part of its long-term commitment to archival works, MSF continued to support the re-translation of Bapak's talks as well as the Tape Preservation Unit in Belgium. Finally, MSF paid US$ 3500 toward the final purchase of the Subud house in Cherkassy, Ukraine.

In 2002, MSF aims to continue to foster the growth of Subud. To involve everyone, chairman Peter Filippelli plans to visit various local centers and national congresses in the United States, England, Germany and beyond to raise awareness about MSF and the worthy causes it supports. To learn more about MSF, please visit our website, currently located on the Subud portal (Subud.net).

Thanks Dorthea for this.

MSF is a great asset to the brotherhood, but its operations and aims have been confusing. It wasn't until i joined the WSC team that I started to understand exactly what MSF was doing. I always thought of it as an international house fund.

Peter and Wayne seemed quite excited about your joining the board. Besides you, Leonard von Willens..., Peter Filipelli, and Wayne Lerrigo, who else is the board?
