Sustainable Development Invitation to the third Varindra T. Vittachi International Conference ( 2306 Reads )
Posted by Scherto
Tuesday, April 13, 2004

Dear friends,

I wonder if you have ever thought about an alternative way to spend your summer by attending the third Varindra Vittachi International Conference on 24-31 August in Nova Scotia Canada. This conference was initiated by USA Subud member Reynold Feldman and this is the third in its series. Many Subud youths attended the first one held in Jakarta 2001 and the second one in Colorado 2003.

<a href=http://subudlife.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=120&mode=flat&order=1&thold=0>READ ON... This one is again mainly sponsored by organizations made up of Subud members. If you managed to read through, you will find Subud members amongst Keynote speakers.

Below is further information about the conference. Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in participating.

All the best,
Scherto (scherto@ghfp.org)

The Third Varindra T. Vittachi International Conference

“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.”
– W.B.Yeats

Creating New Visions for Education
August 24 – 31, 2004
The Pearson Peacekeeping Centre
Nova Scotia, Canada

Education has the power to genuinely transform a person by dramatically altering his or her life. Too often, however, the educational experience is a chore for students, a routine for faculty, a set of problems for administrators and merely a means to economic growth for governments. What can we do to change this situation? We would like to invite students, faculty, administrators, government officials and other interested parties to the third Varindra T. Vittachi International Conference to discover, define and encourage personal and institutional change concerning education in an innovative, open and rigorous way. We recognize that the future of education lies in the hands of those who are presently serving as students, and would like to attract at least two thirds of our conference participants from among the ranks of current high school and university/college students. We ask that the education professionals who are planning to attend make every effort to enable students to participate.

THE CONFERENCE WILL ADDRESS THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:

• What would count as a personal transformation for me?
• What makes an educational experience transformative?
• What are the obstacles to, and the opportunities for, transformation in my educational institution?
• How can we change our educational institutions so that they become avenues for personal and societal transformation?

Speakers: Ms. Anuradha Vittachi, Writer/Activist & Educator, U.K.; Cindy Blackstock, First Nations Leader & Educator, Canada; Victor Kazanjian, Dean of Religious & Spiritual Life, Wellesley College, U.S.; Hardin Tibbs, Futurist, U.K.

Sponsored by
Blue Sky Associates (U.S.A.)– Education as Transformation (U.S.A.) – The Guerrand-Hermès Foundation for Peace (U.K.) – Peaceful Schools International (Canada)
