Bapak talked about Kalimantan in many of his talks. If you got to the Subud Library site and search for 'Kalimantan' you'll get plenty of ideas what Bapak was saying about it.

Here's a quote from just one of his talks:

--------------------------------------------------

Talk To Men And Women
London, England
March 23, 1981
From Special Distribution By the International Subud Committee
Copyright Muhammad Subuh Sumohadiwidjojo 1981
Provisional Translation By Sharif Horthy
Code Number : 81 LON 1
Provisional Translation

The S. Widjojo Center is finished now, and fully leased and now there is so much demand that we have been asked to make a second building. But this time, because now Bapak has started a new project in Kalimantan, the next one we will do with someone else, with our neighbors, who have asked us to make a second fourteen story building because they very much want to work together with Subud, and our own fourteen story building is already full.

And now Bapak is starting with this project in Kalimantan and the purpose of Kalimantan is not Co become rich, but to make Bapak's country fertile, and to give an example, so that people should like to work and should be able to work. Here is Luqman Keele. When he was there, ha said, "Bapak, this is fantastic," but don't just say "fantastic", get on with it.

In Kalimantan, Bapak will first of all clear the Jungle. To start with, there is a hundred thousand hectares, but the Governor has reserved another two hundred thousand for Bapak. It will be necessary to clear the Jungle in which some of the trees have a diameter of three metres. Clearing this jungle will take maybe twenty to thirty years, and as it is being cleared, Bapak will plant palm oil, cocoa, and other things. The company which is doing this Bapak has named Pancaren Cahaya Mulia. People who hear chat name already shake their heads, "What is Pak Subuh up to now?" Bapak is doing it as an example.

And in the earth there are minerals, as Bapak said earlier. Gold, silver, diamonds. The diamonds that they used to find in Ban Jarmasin actually originated from up there, those diamonds this big. ( Bapak indicates something the size of a cricket ball. )

People generally are afraid of going and working there because they are afraid of the ghosts, the djinns, the devils. But these devils, it is not that they are frightened of Bapak; they worship Bapak. "If it is Bapak who is working here, I will not bother him," that is what they say. Bapak didn't ask them to say that; it is their idea. And why do the devils kneel in front of Bapak? Because they fear God.

Indeed, brothers and sisters, the place is extraordinary, and to start the work, Bapak is starting to develop some land for housing for Subud members - the experts who will later work in the mining, in the logging, in the plantations, in the cattle breeding and all sorts of other things. Bapak has bought six hundred hectares for housing there in Tenkiling. That is for all of you.

But in addition to that, he has also bought about forty hectares where we can make boats. Why should we import speed boats from America? We can make them out of timber, of which there is plenty. We have experts for that; there are many experts in Subud, so we have to use them. Eventually it will be crowded there.

And then also for tourists, because it is so beautiful there. The sand is white but contains silica so that it can be used for making glass. There is about 45 kilometers of that sand and there is also kaolin which can be used for making porcelain. Now there are a lot of people lining up to buy that sand, so the work is already starting. Sjarif, you should write to Indonesia and ask them to send a complete report so that the people here can see it.

We are starting with selling plots of land. This six hundred hectares which Bapak bought for housing will be divided up into plots of 1,000 square metres ( one quarter of an acre ), each of which is for sale for one and a half million rupiahs. That is provisional; later the price may change, and you can also buy shares, so that when you are there you will have work and you will own what you are working at. You should not work as a laborer but work on something you own. How it is to be arranged is something we have to work out.

Central Kalimantan, where Bapak is doing all this, is one and a quarter times the size of the Island of Java, but its population is less than one million, while the population of Java is already eighty million. What Bapak has received is that when Bapak moves there, even though Bapak will not live there all the time, about twenty million people will follow Bapak from Java to Kalimantan, They will want to come if Bapak is there because they will not be bothered by the devils; the devils will let them take the gold - if not all, at least they can have half, and leave half for the devils.

So brothers and sisters, it is true that Almighty God, when He created man, already provided him with everything he needs. So if men still fight and quarrel over food and other things, it is the fault of man himself.
