Subud Youth SUBUD YOUTH BRITAIN NEWSLETTER - FRESH RABBIT - ONLINE! ( 3389 Reads )

ALL THOSE WHO ARE INTERESTED in seeing Flesh Rabbit online.... right here on our very own Subud community website (SubudLife), put your hands up and get seen and heard while you still can!!

Fish Rabbit has been going now for nearly 4 years, and in that short space of time, has seen more editors come and go than you could possible imagine. Most are, admittedly, still in rehabilitaion at this time, but are generally making good progress. (Sorry chaps!)

After a few cosmetic changes, style reincarnations and several (futile) attempts to change the name of Britain's Subud Youth Broadsheet, Frumpy Rabbit has succeeded to grow and prosper and still resides in it's usual place, in amongst the centre pages of the Subud Britain Bulletin.

As the current editor of Frightened Rabbit I am interested, for however long I can muster the time and interest, to pull a few key articles out and put them up on SubudLife, in an effort to generate growth and discussion and communication within our wider International Subud youth 'family'.

Please read on below to see a couple of this months extracted articles, and until next time, thanks for your continued support and endless words of encouragement and critisism. You've been grand, as they say!

Ciao, Odette

HALLOWEEN/BONFIRE NIGHT WEEKEND IN MANCHESTER!
(From SYA Britain Co-Chair, Holly Moy)

WELL, we know you've all been waiting for this for far too long... but now we've decided to make you wait even longer and actually have it a week later than originally planned!

This is so that we can use the Manchester Subud house building, which, as I'm sure anyone who went to the last Halloween bash there will remember, is a fantastic venue: massive rooms, plenty of sleeping space upstairs and down, and a big kitchen so we can do lots of cooking!! Heres the basic plan for the weekend:

DATES: 8TH-10TH NovemberCOST: TBA, but should be no more than around £20 a head including food, music etc.

SCHEDULE: Friday eve - everyone arrive, dinner at 8pm, then some imaginative pumpkin carving amongst lots of chatting and the usual guitar strumming (BRING YOUR INSTRUMENTS!) in preparation for Saturday nights party (plus costume planning for those that want to be really organised!)

Saturday day: Shopping in Manchester - costumes/ decorations for the party, wood gathering and bonfire building (weather permitting), building a guy fawkes and preparing a MASSIVE halloween themed dinner, plus decorating for the party.Sat eve: costume preparing; the aforementioned massive dinner, fancy dress comp. then - PARTY!! (until whatever time you see fit...)

Sunday: big clear up, big brunch, then games all afternoon till everyone decides they've had enough... Giant twister anyone?

LET US KNOW if youre coming, by phoning either: Holly (07949 214503)or Alaric (07980 268685)as soon as possible, the earlier we know the earlier we can sort out food shared transport etc. We'll also be able to give you full details on how to get to the house if you havent been there before.

WHAT TO BRING: Pumkins! (we'll get some too but the more the merrier), sleeping bags, warm clothes (the heating may still be broken so warm stuff to sleep in), stuff for costumes, and dont forget your change as we may be doing more fundraising for the PA system!!

CHUCKING OUT THE SMELLY TRAINERS!
(By Maya Horton)

No matter how many times in your life you move house, you never get used to it.

From moving to the little cottage across the street to a strange old abandoned building with no roof five hundred miles away, theres always the same chaos: the wardrobe that is just five centimetres wider than the bedroom alcove, collapsing bookcases that dont quite collapse (except when full of books), the table thats just a little wider than the stairwell. And of course, the biggest problem trying to decide which CDs to put in large boxes to go in the removal van, and which ones to keep in backpack for easy access.

Then it comes down to sorting through ten years worth of junk, trying to figure out what is vitally important to human survival and what needs to be ritually burned. The collection of novelty Halloween socks falls into the former category letters from ex-boyfriend fall into the latter. I remained undecided about the big brown teddy Ive had since I was five.

Of course, matters were complicated further still when I realised that pretty much all my belongings are spread over four different houses, all of which are several hundred miles apart. Im moving out of all four, into a fifth.

It all seemed perfectly logical at the time. So theres lots of hectic running up and down motorways, phoning round various houses PLEASE dont throw out the smelly old trainers I left in your back yard until I come back to claim them!; and so on.

Perhaps the best thing about packing up all your belongings to move house is finding the things I thought I lost, or the things I forgot I even had. The dusty old photographs of the dodgy haircuts I thought were cool in my last term of primary school.

The seven different pairs of Doc Martins; all in ridiculous different colours, and sizes, all of which were only worn once (except the black ones which I wore so often mum had to kidnap them whilst I was sleeping). And so on. Why is it that when you have to clear things out, it becomes impossible to throw anything away?

And, I reached a decision. Teddy is coming with me.
